What if walking, biking, and rolling between communities was easier, safer, and more connected? That’s the focus of the WAMPO Strengthening Transportation Alternatives for the Region (STAR) Plan. This effort will improve regional active transportation by evaluating existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, identifying opportunities to improve connectivity between communities, and updating a regional map.

Project Background
WAMPO has identified active transportation as a priority in response to growing community interest in nonmotorized transportation, sustainability goals, and safety concerns, with a focus on prioritizing connectivity between the communities in the WAMPO region. On June 9, 2026, the Transportation Policy Body approved a contract between WAMPO and RDG Planning & Design for the development of a regional active transportation plan. This project will be carried out with the support of WAMPO member jurisdictions, residents, and an Active Transportation Advisory Group (ATAG).
