Did you know the highways in the Wichita metro area are equipped with advanced technology to inform drivers of real-time weather, traffic, and crashes conditions? The system is called an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

ITS uses technology, communications, and information to improve safety and mobility on our region’s transportation infrastructure. It keeps the public informed with real-time information and road condition status, giving motorists options when making their travel plans and selecting their routes.

Wichita Traffic Operations Center

The Wichita Traffic Operations Center monitors approximately 30 miles of roadway and includes 41 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV), 49 traffic sensors, and 23 dynamic message signs (DMS) through their WICHway program. It is jointly funded between the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and Sedgwick County. The Traffic Operations Center is currently staffed from 6:00am through 7:00pm on weekdays.
