Carol Gilchrist, Planning Analyst II, coordinates and maintains our Geographical Information Systems (GIS) dataset collection and produces GIS maps that identify detailed transportation information for projects, plans, and meetings in our metropolitan area.
Carol joined our staff in May, 2013, after working more than 18 years for the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department (MAPD) as a graphic artist, providing expertise from drawing hand-inked plats to growing with technology and creating computer-generated graphics and maps. Prior to that, she pursued a BFA in Graphic Design at Wichita State University with a minor in Minority Studies. Carol spent seven years as a coordinator/designer in the graphic art department at Boeing and an additional seven years at Bearden's designing and building stained glass products.
Her background in a variety of graphic media and experience in planning has decidedly made for a smooth transition to working with GIS and creating detailed, high-quality maps that visually inform the transportation planning process.
Carol lives in Valley Center, with dreams of living abroad. She has three sons and two really cute grandchildren, whom she adores. Traveling, photography, and collecting vintage pink pottery are some of her many hobbies.
